Community engaged and environmentally focused weekly potlucks.
As part of a grant from the College of Visual and Performing Arts at James Madison University, Tanner Leslie and I founded kinfed.
Kinfed- weekly potlucks where anyone and everyone is welcome to sit at our table (or on the floor when it’s cold outside and there is no furniture). What started out as small gatherings with friends, very quickly turned into large community meals with up to 50 people attending every week. Focused on educating others about food waste, food insecurity, and how we nourish our bodies and our community; we also focused on integrating food into art practice and how to incorporate that into our daily lives. While building a very tight knit community, we were able to learn and educate others about the strong bonds that can be created over food. As Tanner and I leave the Shenandoah Valley, kinfed is being continued by some members of our community, with the hope that it will become a permanent event for years to come.
